People
People make any law firm run: here our our professionals.

Russ Van Camp

Russ  Van Camp is a graduate of Gunnison College in Colorado and Gonzaga Law School. He has been in practice since 1973, and during that time has participated in literally hundreds of trials. A successful lawyer, Russ is well known in Spokane for his personalized "TORTS" license plate. He has, in fact, been referred to in the press as the "King of Torts," a description he cheerfully accepts. Of course, like any high profile lawyer, he is sometimes called less flattering things: but Russ believes his most important quality is his refusal to take himself seriously (even if others do). A Christian conservative Republican, Russ is passionately interested in protecting the rights of others, especially those in our society who cannot speak for themselves.

Russ Van Camp is admitted before the Bar of the State of Washington, the Eastern and Western Districts of the United States District Court, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court.  He has appeared in cases in Alaska, Oregon, California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, North and South Dakota, Arkansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Texas, Nevada, Montana, in Canada and Hawaii.  There is special deal available for clients who bring in cases that require travel to Hawaii.  It is a tough burden to bear, but someone has to.  Russ is a member of the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association and of the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, along with numerous other organizations.

Russ's practice emphasizes personal injury claims and trials, as well as criminal and family law matters.

This is Russ to his clients and friends:

But this is Russ to the opposing side:

Dustin Deissner

Dustin Deissner went to Gonzaga University (before the Basketball team was really good) and Gonzaga Law School, worked as a judicial Law Clerk at the Washington State Court of Appeals, and has worked for Big Firms before joining Russ Van Camp. Dusty is a Spokane native, a North Central grad, and has been in practice since 1982, emphasizing the technical side of the practice, including all the firm's appeal work.

Dusty glories in being the firm's token liberal Democrat, and is, in fact, the most handsome member of the firm. (Being the author of this home page helps with that evaluation).

Dusty is licensed to practice before the Bars of the States of Washington and Idaho (really admitted, not reciprocally admitted), as well as the Federal District Courts of both those States, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Dusty's practice emphasizes personal injury claims and trials, Family, Criminal and Bankruptcy cases and appeals.  He has been involved in literally hundreds of appeals and has appeared in over 30 published decisions.

Paralegal Staff

If the truth be known, it is the support staff who really make a Law Firm work.  We have a fabulous, talented and hard working crew of paraprofessionals:

  • Sally Eva has been with Russ since he started practice over 30 years ago, and continues to put up with him in spite of it.
  • Don R. Shaw, Jr. has been involved with the practice of law longer than Russ, and does much of the office's interviewing, service and investigation.
  • Sheena Anderson has been with us for a couple of years and focuses primarily on personal injury cases.
  • Pam Sargent has been with us the shortest time but fits in like a veteran.  She has the office next to Russ and yet manages to maintain unflappable calm and good spirits.  Go figure.
  • Donna Davis is now now handling our Workers Comp and Social Security cases.
  • Donna Whitney is our bookkeeper, Office Manager and Office Mother

    (or, maybe, Mother Superior?)

  • Darlene Whittaker is our friendly face at the front counter.
